Commit Tutorial
Needed
52 card deck with the 8 of diamonds removed; Four or more players; Counters (such as poker chips)
Deal
Before the cards are dealt, each player will ante one chip to the middle.
The cards are dealt out one at a time, with each player getting as many cards as possible, with every player getting the same amount. For example, in a four player game, each player will get 12 cards with three cards left over. The extra cards are set aside and not used for the round.
Objective
The object of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards from their hand. Players will play their cards into the middle in sequential order of the same suit. For example, the 7 of clubs is played onto the 6 of clubs.
Card Rank
Lowest to highest
Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King
Game Play
The player left of the dealer is first to play. The player can start by playing any card into the middle. Once the card is played, the player with the next highest card rank in the same suit will play it. Players continue to play cards in sequence order until a stop happens.
A stop will happen when no player has the next card in sequence. This can happen when the next card in the sequence is one of the extra cards from the deal, the 8 of diamonds, a king, or the card was played earlier in the round.
Once a stop happens, the player of the last card will get to start a new sequence with any card they choose from their hand.
The 9 of diamonds is a special card. During game play, the player with the 9 of diamonds can play it at any time without it having to be in sequence. The player of the 9 of diamonds has the option to play the next card in sequence of 10 of diamonds, or the next card in sequence from the card below the 9, if possible.
If the player of the 9 of diamonds does not have either card to continue the sequence, the play moves clockwise left to the next player until a card is able to be played. Once a card is played, play returns to cards being played in sequential order.
Winning
The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round. The winner of the round collects the pot of chips in the middle.
The winner will also collect one chip from any player that still has a king in hand. If the 9 of diamonds was not played, the winner collects two chips from the player with the 9 of diamonds.
