Cornhole Tutorial

Needed

Two or four players; Two Cornhole boards; Eight bags

(Check out custom Cornhole boards from the Crafty Doods Etsy Shop)

Setup

The boards are setup 27 feet apart. This distance can be adjusted for player ability or available playing space.

One teammate from each team will stand at each board. Each team will have its own four bags. Each team's bags start the game with players standing at the same board.

Objective

The object of the game is to be the first team to 21 points. Points are scored by throwing and landing your bags onto the opposite side board, or making them into the hole in the board.

Game Play

Players will alternate throwing bags. A player from the first team will throw one bag, followed by a player from the second team throwing one bag. These players continue to take turns throwing a bag until all eight bags have been thrown.

Scoring

Bags that are on the board are worth one point each. Bags that went into the hole are worth three points each. Cancellation scoring is used so that only one team scores per round.

For example, if team 1 got three bags on the board and team 2 got two bags on the board. Team 2's two points are subtracted from team 1's three points, resulting in one point for team 1.

Winning

The first team to score 21 points or more wins the game.

A variation of the game can be played where a team must score 21 points exactly to win the game. If a team goes over 21 points, their score is returned to 13 points and the game play continues.

Rules

The team that most recently scored points throws first in the next round of throws.

Players must stay behind the front edge of the board when making throws.

If the bag hits the ground it scores no points. If after the bag hits the ground, it rolls or bounces onto the board, the bag is removed from the board.

Scoring doesn't take place until all eight bags have been thrown. This means bags on the board can be knocked into the hole, or off the board during the round.

If playing with two players, the players will switch ends after each round of throws.
