President Tutorial

Needed

52 card deck; four to seven players (more players require an additional deck); pen and paper for scorekeeping.

Deal

Each player is dealt one card at a time until all the cards have been dealt.

Objective

The objective of the game is to be the first player to get rid of all the cards in your hand. The first player to play all his/her cards is considered the president. The second player to play all his/her cards is considered the vice president.

Card Rank

Highest to lowest – Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3. The 2s are clear cards, and when played into the middle, the pile is cleared.

Game Play

The first round is started by the player with the 3 of clubs playing it into the middle. Play moves clockwise left to the next player. This player must match or beat the rank of the previous card played. When a card is matched, the next player to the left is skipped.

A pair of cards will beat any single card. A higher ranking pair is needed to beat a pair that has been played. A 3-of-a-kind will beat any pair, and a higher 3-of-a-kind is needed to beat a 3-of-a-kind that has been played.

A 2 clears the middle pile. The player who played the 2 plays again to start the new pile.

If a player is unable to beat the previous card or cards played and cannot clear the pile, the player must pass.

If a player is able to complete a 4-of-a-kind into the middle, that player can do so, even if he/she is playing out of turn. When there is a 4-of-a-kind in the middle, the pile is cleared. The player that completed the 4-of-a-kind starts the new pile.

Scoring

The president of the round is awarded 2 points, and the vice president of the round is awarded 1 point. The first player to 11 points wins the game.

A-hole

The last player with cards still in his hand is known as the A-hole. The A-hole has to deal the next round and clear the cards from the middle whenever needed. Before the next round begins, the A-hole also has to give the president his highest ranking card, and the president will choose a card to give back to the A-hole.

Rules

  • After the first round, all other rounds begin with the current president playing the first card.

  • A player can pass on any turn, even if that player is able to play.

  • If every player passes and play returns to the player who played the passed on card, the cards are cleared, and a new pile is started.

  • A player cannot play a 2 as his/her last card. If a player only has a 2 left, that player automatically becomes the A-hole for the next round.
